Group 1's comments. :D
What is Oxfam and what does it do?
It is an organisation that looks out for disasters. It has underground systems that try to look out for on-coming disasters.
What happened in Haiti and why is there so much news about it?
There was a major earthquake that buried thousands of people, and Haiti, which is one of the poorest countries in the world, is devastated for help.
How do you think Haiti's economic status and environment has contributed to the extent of the disaster?
Haiti is already a very poor country, thus it has not enough funds to rebuild its country again. Haiti is also a very hard country to get access to, therefore, providing relief to the country might be a little difficult.
Do you think we should be concerned about issues like this one, that are not local, and why?
Yes, we should as of the fact that people out there are suffering, we should play a part to help, local or not. Even a small bit of help makes a difference.

I agree with what group 1 says,as we all have a part to contribute to the people in Haiti. They are suffering from the effects of a earthquake, therefore in urgent need for money and rations.I hope everyone would help out with the donation towards people in Haiti.

Interesting, but you do need to be a bit more substantial.
How do you think Information Technology has helped Haiti?
February 2, 2010 at 7:12 PM
It has help by informing the people around the world to generously donate money to help raise funds for the victims in Haiti. Also,it helps to keep track of the situation in Haiti, telling us of all the latest information in Haiti.P.S.(MIN CHONG JACK)

I think that we should do whatever we can to help them. We are fortunate to be living in Singapore where there is few or almost no natural disaster, but there are people who might be less fortunate to be living in Haiti when the earthquake occurred, and hence lost their homes. We have almost what we wanted, and might be desire for more, but they are just wishing for a home, so what we can do is just to play a part by donating money. Any amount does not matter, what counts is the effort. I think that IT has help Haiti by catching the attention of the people to the major earthquake, and is transferring messages to all parts of the world to encourage them to help the people in Haiti.

The earthquake incident in Haiti is indeed an unfortunate incident that has happened. Being one of the poorest countries in the world, Haiti has no financial source to rebuild the country after getting hit by an earthquake. But in another view, I felt that people around the world are very generous by posting appeals on the internet in getting people to donate money to help rebuild the homes in Haiti, some even volunteered themselves to join the Red Cross to help people in Haiti. This is truly the spirit that we should learn from to help out people in need even though we do not know them.
February 4, 2010 at 5:25 AM
Information Technology has help the earthquake incident to tell everyone in the whole world about it. Then the people who saw this video will donate some money to help them. Without Information Technology, people in the other parts of the world might not know the earthquake even happen. Singapore is a safe country where no disasters will occur.Hence we should feel lucky and help whoever needs our help.

Personally, I think that the haiti people should be pitied on, and that we should help them out if we have the means to do so. Afterall, we singaporeans are surrounded by other countries and natural disasters can affect us on a small scale or not at all, hence we are very lucky. So, we are able to at least donate some rations or money to them. Even if a little, it still helps. Information Technology is very helpful in this area, as we can easily get access or be notified to information such as this one, and we can immediately plan ways to help them out.

We all should help the Haiti earthquake victims one way or another but the most feasible way for teens like us to help is to spread the news about this disaster through the internet so that more people will be aware of this disaster and developed countries will be able to send aid to help rebuild their country and rebuild their lives. The power of Information Technology should not be underestimated :P

I feel that we should help the people in Haiti as they are very pitiful because of the earthquake. We are very fortunate to be in Singapore as we are protected from natural disaster by other neighbouring countries. The Information Technology is useful because it is able to help spread the news in Haiti throughout the world. People around the world are very helpful to be donating money and helping the people out by rebuilding their home in Haiti.
February 6, 2010 at 7:17 PM
The Haiti people need help and even though there are not local, we should help them as they are still a part of the world. Who knows next time if we need help too. The thing they need most now is money, but we as teens can't possibly donate a huge sum of money to them, so the only thing we can do is to spread the news via internet. This shows how IT can be useful. When kind-hearted people see the news, they can lend a helping hand.

I think that they are pitiful because they are one of the poorest countries in the world and have no financial source to rebuild the country. I think that we are also very fortunate to be in singapore as there are no natural disasters and we are one of the countries which is more developed then them. I think that we should help them as they are part of the world.

I think that information technology has helped to create awareness to the world about the earthquake that had happen in Haiti. The people there needed help and we should try our best help them in whatever way we can.

In my opinion, we should donate generously to the survivors of the earthquake. Even with the help of the best medical teams, resources still need money so as to continue operating. This is one of the worst natural disasters that have happened in the world. As fortunate people, we should have sympathy towards those who are not as fortunate as we are. Hence, we should lend a helping hand to them; to get over their grief of losing their loved ones. We should bring what they need most now such as food and medical supplies.
February 7, 2010 at 5:31 AM
I think that we should help them, and do whatever we can and possible . We are indeed very lucky to live in Singapore , where there are no natural disasters and surrounded by other countries . Thus, we are not affected at all during any disasters . Information technology does helps to spread this news around the world, for more people to know and more people can help by donating money or in any other possible ways . I hope that many kind-hearted people will try to rebuild their homes .

We are all aware of the recent earthquake that stroked countless of people in Haiti, so what are we waiting for? It is now the time for us to donate any amount that we as students can afford to sincerely help those victims out there. We know that many of them are struggling and suffering now, hence we should start showing our love and concern to them. Every cent counts!
February 7, 2010 at 7:02 AM
I feel that what matters most to the victims in Haiti now is food, lodging and medical care. They need all of the help that they can get, from whatever source it might come. I also noticed the Haitian people are looking to the Americans to help them in this time of need. This is evidenced by the various cardboard signs that people have put around the city asking for help. All signs are written in English. This is because they are looking to the Americans for help. A few of the signs are in English, French and Spanish, but all are asking for help in English. I think that this speaks for itself as to who they expect to help them. So in one way or another, the Haitians realised who are their real benefactors are,and who they really look up to in times of need.

The earthquake incident in haiti is indeed devastating. It reminds me of the earthquake in sichuan. Many celebrities are trying to raise funds for the earthquake and i hope that they can quickly recover from this disaster. Hope that there will be more volunteers to help them raise funds and rebuild their homes. They need the help .

I think we should lend a helping hand to those people in need . We should help them in whatever way we can , like donating food , clothes , furnitures and stationaries for the youths to study in a better environment . In singapore , we don't experience such pitiful situation as singapore is a safe country , so we ought to help those in need .

The earthquake incident in Haiti is indeed an unfortunate incident that has happened.haiti, being one of th poorest countries in th wrold, i feel that everyone around the world should do a part do help them, even a dollar is a blessing to them.
information technology allowed everyone around th world to know about what happened there, this allows more people to donate money to them .
being a developed country, singapore should try to help the them in all ways, by donating food, money & more.

Jade :
We should do our best to help them in every way we can , be it a minor or a major , it's the thought that counts when you're helping others . What they need most at their current state , should be medical care and lodging . They will need a shelter for them to live in , and medical care to make them healthier .

I think we should help them with everything we have. They need all the resources they can get. And we have all they resources they want. Information Technology help us know about things happening around the world. As earthquakes are unfortunate, we must help them by doing whtever we can.

I think the Haiti Earthquake's victim is very helpless as it would not be nice when we see our homes just destroyed in a few moments. We should donate anything possible to them to help them restore their properties and lives as soon as possible, since no one would like to see that our own homes destroyed. Information Technology has helped Haiti as the first rescue them there can easily contact their headquarters about what the victims require to survive, like medical aid that has not been brought there by the first team, can be brought my the second medical team.
February 7, 2010 at 10:29 PM
I agree with what group one was said,Haiti was the one of the poorest country in the world. We need to be kind and do whatever we can do to help them.As a part of the whole world, we have responsibility to care and help those who has disasters. Now we should not only care about our own country. The capital of Haiti was destroyed during the earthquake , more than 40 percent of the economic of Haiti was destroyed. And now is the moment the international citizens to give our benevolence.
February 7, 2010 at 10:30 PM
i think the people in haiti should be pitied by us as their country was destroyed in a devastating earthquake, which shattered their economy and thus, they need a lot of help from all people around the world.therefore, we should help donate money to them.
February 7, 2010 at 10:32 PM
i think we should remember to help those poor people who in needs. As earthquakes had destroy their family. They need the help from each and everyone of us.So we should do whatever we can to help them in their needs.
February 7, 2010 at 10:34 PM
i agree with what group one has said . Hati is a very poor country and now this earthquake has taken place which makes them even more pityful . i think we should try our best to help them in what ever we can irregardless of whether it is donating food or clothes or books or money . singapore is a safe and condusive environment for all of us and we should nt take singapore for granted (:
February 7, 2010 at 10:34 PM
I think that we should help them as they are helpless. By helping them, it shows that Singapore is a very compassionate country. We should be kind to those in need.
February 7, 2010 at 10:34 PM
I think that the Haiti people are very pitiful as the earthquake was a very sudden one. It is a disaster that nobody will want to be landed in. Meanwhile, we should donate things that are within our limits to help them out during this period as it takes time to rebuild their homeland.
February 7, 2010 at 10:35 PM
In my opinion, i think that the victims in Haiti are very pitiful as they had not expected such a sudden earthquake to strike their homeland, thus ruining the buildings there. Currently, what they need most is a shelter for them from the rain, food and some medical care. It will take a very long time for them to rebuild their homeland and it is still filled with debris of the earthquake. We should all contribute in helping them by donating our things to them and donate generously.
February 7, 2010 at 10:36 PM
I think that we should help them in one way or another. We can do that by donating things or money to charity funds. We should not take what we have for granted. We should cherish what we have now and not regret it when we lose it.

The earthquake has just happened in haiti and it is really a sad thing that happened. It is already a poor country and now this has happen, it makes things worst. We should try our best to help them in every way we can and hope things could get better. The earthquake destroyed many homes and cause many people to be homeless. I hope things get better for them and have a better life ahead !
February 7, 2010 at 10:38 PM
I think that the people in haiti is suffering and we should show some sympathy. In my opinion, donating food or money are ways of showing sympathy and care.

I think that the people in Haiti are in need of help as they do not have enough resources. I think that we should encourage other people to donate and help the people in Haiti
February 7, 2010 at 10:48 PM
The people in Haiti are obviously unlucky. There have also been incidents about rescue being delayed because of money issues. This is rather puzzling because people are dying and money is why they are not getting help. These type of issues should not even surface during times of crisis.

CHLORIS.
Hi I don't know what's Haiti and anyway i googled it already :) :) Okay i think they are very pitiful we should all lend a helping hand if we can. This devastating earthquake happened in a third world country and it is really hard for them as they do not have resources and financial support. YES we should all be concerned since we have the ability to help. FINALLY, we should all donate money and love!! Okay im done.
February 8, 2010 at 7:41 AM
Good job on the comments, everyone. I am glad you went to find out more about Haiti, Chloris.
It is a good thing to help a country in need. However, we also need to consider a few questions. For example - do we know where all the aid money is going?
February 8, 2010 at 7:27 PM
i agree. we as human, should at least reach out to people who require help. because we are human and that we deserve the right to live, we should at least just give them a help. hence lending a helping hand to Haiti should be the way to do.
February 8, 2010 at 10:55 PM
The earthquake that happened in Haiti is very sad. Haiti is a very poor country and for something like this to happen to them in such difficult times, we all feel sad. It is especially during these times that we should help them. Every little help counts.
February 9, 2010 at 5:42 AM
Kenneth here .
I believe the situation in haiti is very sad and i hope to donate my love and care for the needy there that desperately needs the love and care which are required from us . I pity them and hope to help them if i have the capability to do so , and if i have it , i will . Every single help counts .
