Reading Assignment #2 (Group 3)
The Sentosa Integrated Resort (IR) opened over the Chinese New Year and there have been a lot of articles online and in the Straits Times about it as it is a significant event for Singapore.
Read one online source (Eg. This can be from Channel News Asia Online, forums, Youtube, blogs etc) about the Sentosa IR opening and cite the source in your response by giving the link and headline for it.
Also, read one article from the Straits Times about the IR and cite the date, page and headline of the article in your response.
Then, answer the following questions:
What is the Sentosa IR and what sections does it consist off (Eg. hotels, theme parks etc.)?
What benefits is the Sentosa IR believed to be able to bring to Singapore?
What problems have been associated with the IR and what action has the government taken to combat these problems?
Do you think the Sentosa IR will bring more harm or more good to Singapore?

I think it will attract more tourist thus will bring prosper to singapore.
i think it will be harm as family will spent alot of money on that.

In my opinion, the IR would bring harm and good to singapore.The IR would boost singapore's economy and will also increase tourism in singapore.It will also improve employment. On the other hand , the IR also brings harm to singapore. It will increase the number of gamblers in singapore.It can also increase the rate of compulsive gambling. The opening of the IR will also lead to money laudering.

The Sentosa IR is an Integrated Resort with marine life parks, hotels, the uinversal studio and the crockfords tower. The Sentosa IR is believed to attract more tourists to Singapore to inprove the economy in Singapore. The problems faced are that more people are getting more addicted to gambling in the casinos in the Singapore IR, but the government in trying to prevent that from happening. In my opinion, I feel that the Sentosa IR has brought more good to Singapore as it brings more tourists and improves Singapore's economy.

I feel that the Sentosa Integrated Resort will bring even more prosperity to Singapore. It is what my family calls 'Economy Booster of Singapore.' We should be looking forward to better days ahead!

With IR , singapore will be able to attract moer tourists from overseas and thus able to earn more money . And if one's a gambling or on the blacklist , he or she would not be able to get into the casino as this will result in loss of money for singapore .

same same. it would actually bring more tourists to singapore. however i also believe that it could actually cause people to be addicted to gambling. but i wouldn't actually bother as i don't really care about what is happening in singapore.

The IR would of course be of help to Singapore,but at the same time,would bring about many problems.On the good side,more tourists will be attracted to Singapore,making tourism in Singapore popular.On the other hand,the problem with gambling is to get addicted to it.It is very common and i am sure we know of its consequences,that is to break families apart and illegal loans from loan sharks.Therefore,in my thinking,IR would cause more harm than good in Singapore.

i think that the IR attracts many tourist from other neighboring countries, which can help boost singapore's economy. however, the IR can lead to compulsive gambling, which may cause crime rates to increase. some may even turn to loan sharks just to feed their gambling habits.therefore, i think the IR does not help singapore.

The sentosa IR benefits singapore because its many highlights attract tourists to want to come to singapore. By coming to singapore to gamble at the casino, which is the main reason most of the tourists come for, it would boost the local economy. However, sometimes it could be a bane to singapore too. The opening of the casino caused many people to be interested in going there, and once they become addicted to gambling, there is no way out. Some very desperate people could also cammit crimes and cause the crime rates to go up rapidly, and this could cause tourists to have a bad impression of singapore too.
