Sentosa IR hotels to open http://www.straitstimes.com/BreakingNews/Singapore/Story/STIStory_474043.html

1)What is the Sentosa IR and what sections does it consists of (eg. hotels , themeparks . etc) ?.

The IR would consits of casinos as well as hotel facilities, restaurants, entertainment, shopping centers, r
etail outlets, restaurants, clubs and theatre in a 500 metre stretch.

2)What benefits is the Sentosa IR believed to be able to bring to SGP ?
The aim was to attract tourists to the country , create more jobs and bolster the Singapore economy

3)What problems have been associated with the LR and what actions has the government taken to combat these problems ?

Debates among singaporeeans on the decision made to open the sentosa IR due to religious and moral problems . People were concerned with illegal loaning and gambling addiction . To solve the problem , the government hired safeguards to restrict the admission of Singaporeans into casinos, implementing a system of exclusions and establishing a National Council on Gambling with the aim to help people cope with their gambling problems.

Do you think the Ir will bring more harm or good to Singapore ?

Our reponse : We think that Ir will truely boost Singapore's economy due to the arising of the travelling industry and Singaporeans' monetary affluent. However, it brings us down to the issue of integrity, honesty and moral. So it affects Singapore in both ways but it might cause more harm than good. We think that implimenting the system of Singaporeans paying entrance fee is good and effective.

I agree with group 3 as the introduction of the Ir will cause problems such as illegal loaning and addictive gambling to occour.Although it is already happening, the Ir would cause the problem to be even more severe. The fact that tourist see Singapore as a really "boring"country, the Singapore government has decided to take the measure of introducing the IR.The IR may help the country to improve its economy, but other than this, there is no other good points about the IR.

In my opinion , introducing the IR will bring us alot of problems . Alot of gamblers will be attracted here and come to gamble , this is not very good as it will make them want to gamble more . Although the IR can help to boost Singapore's tourism industry which has been facing intense competition from other destinations around the region , but i think it is only to attract tourist , it does not have any advantages towards the Singaporeans as it make gamblers want to gamble more , so i think creating the IR in the first place was a wrong step to take . US$7.1 billion is expected to be invested in IR , this is a large sun of money and we still do not whether the IR will be a sucess or not .

Personally, i think that opening the IR can improve Singapore's tourism industry, which has been facing intense competition from other countries, particularly Bangkok and Hong Kong. However, casinos may encourage more gambling and lead to undesirable associated activities like money laundering and loan sharks.

in my opinion , i think that opening the ir can improve the economy of Singapore. As there will be more tourists come to Singapore, and Singapore was such a small island , it need to have more new things to attract more people to come . And also Singapore is known as its straight laws , so i belived that ir will not be a big problem, this is a good thing to Singapore.

Introducing IR can do help to boost Singapore's tourism industry but casinos over there encourage people to gamble more. Although, there would be restrictions in the admission of the local population into the casinos, most of the people think that the money that had to pay($100) is nothing compare to the money that they had won. Therefore this does not stop those poeple who had this kind of mindset thus I think IR might not be a sucess.

I think there are both good and bad points by introducing IR. The good point is that it can attract tourists from other countries to Singapore. This could improve Singapore's tourism industry. However, it may also encourage gamblers to gamble more. And those who initially are not gamblers may get addicted. IR can be a good thing to help Singapore, but government should take some actions to prevent the bad things from happening.

This new facilities or entertainment places fer everyone in Singapore. Will bring prosperity and more tourism fer singapore. As Singapore is a small coutry but this IR that was still be opened in this kind of area and land , people around the world will come here and explore and see how Singapore are doing it and learn from us. Meanwhile, the Casino is also the main attraction. It would mostly attracts more foreigners as it is free fer them to enter in the Casino. But those Singaporeans Citizens and PR are to buy a 100 dollar Levi in order to get in. So the main aim of the government of doing this , is genrally to get increase the tourism percentage in singapore.

As the IR would consits of casinos, hotel facilities, restaurants, entertainment, shopping centers, retail outlets, restaurants, clubs and theatres etc. this will definately attract much more tourists from overseas to come singapore.this may improve singapore's economy.

Also, i believe that this also created many new job opportunities as the new casino would definately need a lot of helpers. This is a positive impact to Singaporeans.

however on the other hand, i feel that having so much tourists at singapore, owners may increase th price of the hot selling items so that they can earn more. this wll cause singaporeans to spend more money on daily expenses than before .

In my opinion, opening the Sentosa IR is actually a risk to the country as more local people can now gamble in casino within a distance that needs no longer than 3 hours of travel.

Therefore, if addicted to gambling, a lot of problems regarding money issues will arise. Although it also has its benefits. More tourists will then come forward to Singapore to gamble, thus helping to increase the business of the Singapore Tourism Board and improve the economy.

In conclusion, I think that the chances of IR being a success is a 100%. However, the consequences might turn out bad.

I think that the Sentosa IR have both advantages & disadvantages. One of the advantages of the IR is that it can definitely attract more tourist to come to Singapore and thus increase the economy. However, there are disadvantages to it too. More local people will be able to gamble there, and if addicted, many problems like money laundering or loan sharks will then occur.

The opening of the IR will definately benifit the government and not us. Those who go in the casino are definately losing cause Singaporean and PRs will have to pay an admission fee of $100. Although this does not apply to foreigners but gambling is definately a losing game. However, there are also other facilities such as Universal Studio theme-park and many more which will attract families to visit.
So, overall the opening of IR is beneficial.

I think that the sentosa ir would increase the economy and can attract more tourists. On the other hand, this could also develop more gambling addicts.

With the implementation of the IR, not only does it boost singapore's economy by attracting more tourists to visit the IR.However, we must also take note that with this new implementation, singapore also faces another problem which is the crime rate. Singapore would have more loan sharks chasing hopeless gambling addicts for money as well as unfortunate happenings in the casino, but with fantastic facilites to attract tourists to visit here such as hotels and restaurants not only does it becomes a popular tourist attraction as well as bringing up the reputation of singapore. On the other hand, entering into the casino has to pay $100 as entrance fee, i think this is worth it because this discourages singaporeans from frequently entering into the casino and gamble. Hence, overall i think that singapore has made a right choice in giving approval of building the IR so that it could be cited here.

I think that IR can bring us good as it is able to boost Singapore's economy as well as creating more jobs for the people. However, it can cause lots of problems like having more gambling addicts etc, but i believe that as long as there are measures taken, we will be able to solve the problems.

I think IR does benefit Singapore. More tourists will be attracted to Singapore, eventually the economy will increase, creating more opportunities for the people from locals or foreigners. However, there are pros and cons of IR. The bad thing is about the casinos, these casinos can create lots of problems on gambling addicts. There will surely be more cases on illegal loaning . So this should be the part where most people will be concerned of.

To start off,the opening of the Sentosa IR will surely be attracting countless of tourists from all around the world to Singapore. This would certainly link to the increase in Singapore's economy. Nevertheless,IR has got it's disadvantage;that is,there may be a great increase in terms of gamblings and loan sharks going on in Singapore. Thus,i feel that the opening of IR would only be good if casinos were not built in the first place.

The opening of th IR would certainly boost singapore's economy as it would bring in more tourists. A disadvaage of the IR is that the amount of gamblers in singapore will increse as the IR has a casino

The sentosa IR benefits singapore because its many highlights attract tourists to want to come to singapore. By coming to singapore to gamble at the casino, which is the main reason most of the tourists come for, it would boost the local economy. However, sometimes it could be a bane to singapore too. The opening of the casino caused many people to be interested in going there, and once they become addicted to gambling, there is no way out. Some very desperate people could also commit crimes and cause the crime rates to go up rapidly, and this could cause tourists to have a bad impression of singapore too.

I feel that the Singapore IR has indeed helped to bring in more tourists to Singapore and helped to improve the economy in Singapore. However, the casino in the IR may cause many Singaporeans or some foreigners to be addicted to gambling. Although the government has taken preventive measures, i still feel that we should not encourage gambling.

I think that the Singapore IR will help to improve Singapore's economy and increase the number of tourists coming into Singapore. But it also encourages the locals to gamble thus causing some to be addicted to gambling.
