What is the International Space Station (ISS) and which countries are involved? How is it being built?

The International Space Station (ISS) is an internationally developed research facility that is being assembled in low Earth orbit.

Sixteen countries from around the world are involved. The international partners includes, the United States, Russia, Canda, Japan, Brazil, European Space Agency (Belgium, Britain, Denmark, France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Norway, Spain, Sweden, and Switzerland)

The United States and Russia are leading the effort by launching the components into the orbit. The real builders are the astronauts and cosmonauts are the ones who risk their lives to complete the assembling of parts in space. After the new modules are docked with the space station, crew members then will perform dangerous space walks ont he exterior to connect wires, deply antennas, and complete other maintenance tasks.

I think that the astronauts and cosmonauts are very brave to be willing to go out into space to carry out such an important and dangerous operation in the space as one mistake could be deadly.

How will the ISS benefit humanity?

Some people feel that the ISS's tremendous budget has taken funds away from robotic exploration and other science. However, the ISS is a resource that will guide us on our future human endeavors in space.
It is more than just an obligation to finish and then be disregarded. The planning and funding for its future should encompass the maximum utilization of its fullest potential.

How will the new "Tranquility" node benefit the ISS and why is it important?

Tranquillity is the third and last of the station’s US nodes which contains an advanced life support system to recycle waste water for crew use as well as to generate oxygen for the crew to breathe. Not only that,
the node also provides four berthing locations for more attached pressurised modules or crew transportation vehicles, in addition to the permanent berthing location for the station's Cupola.

Do you think the ISS is significant? Explain your opinion.

I think ISS is significant. With the presence of a permanent crew, the spacecraft itself would be managed very well. With that, scientists on earth would have immediate access to the data collected. The ISS provides a place whereby spacecraft systems are able to be tested out when it needs to be used for missions where great time is being spent to the moon and mars respectively. This would provide a experience for future improvisations. The risks taken would be greatly reduced and the capabilities of planning better spacecraft would be advanced. This programme, allows 14 nations to live and work together so as to provide multi-national missions.

With the help of the improvised ISS, I think it is definitely significant. Without it, we would not know what really happen in the universe and how does the whole universe thing really work. Thanks to the help of the space crew, we are able to live a worry-free life, able to know such as when meteriods or asteriods would hit us. ISS has play a important part in our lives. Hence, we should cherish the advanced space technology we have, and not take it fr granted.

Althought I don't really understand what has this got to do with us, but I think the operation of ISS will benefit many people who are curious of living in outer space. Besides, this may satisfy the curiosity of those people thinking what would it be like to live in a place with no gravity. Maybe, we might even discover more things in space than on earth.

this enormous project is really helpful to us as it allows us to understand more about our galaxy, and it is also useful if one day our planet would be inhabitable, the ISS would be able to accomodate a number of people in space. futhermore, living in zero gravity is a wonderful experience for those wanting to fulfil dreams of living in space.

A science topic, my favourite ,the ISS is incredible important. Many experiments are carried out onboard and one important example would be the effect of being in space on human beings, because the next planet that humans want to visit is mars (it takes six months on a spaceship to get there). So it's an excellent platform to carry out experiments that could determine our future.

Group 4 you have done a lot of research and that is good - but you also need to rewrite your answers in your own words! Don't cut and paste. Please rewrite your post.

Also, consider the other advantages of the ISS - Jimmy asked what the ISS has to do with us. What are the other uses of the ISS that have a lot to do with us? (Eg. medical applications etc...)

the joint creation of th ISS is a start to man's exploration of space. This would not only strengthen international ties,it will also increase mankind's perspective of space and it may also make way for future space explorations. If technology permits, many other space projects may be modelled after the ISS.

Those astronauts and cosmonauts must have alot of courage to go out of Earth as they do not know what will happen to them at outer space. After they go out there, we will be able to learn more things about outer space. And if anything happen to Earth in future, we would be able to live in other planets like Mars.

The ISS serves as a research laboratory that has a microgravity environment in which crews conduct experiments and it is used for assembly and maintenance tasks on the Space Station. The station has a unique environment for the testing of the spacecraft systems that will be required for trips to the Moon and Mars . I think the ISS is a very good invention as it benifits us alot . i also think that the people who go up there is very brave as they know that they might die anytime with one mistake done . Kudos to them !

I think the ISS would help us in the process of studying more about the world. The ISS also provides a location in the relative safety of Low Earth Orbit to test spacecraft systems that will be required for long-duration missions to the Moon and Mars(from google). This will help us in operating spacecrafts further from the Earth. The ISS also helps us foresee an oncoming aestroid or meteroid thus it would definitely benefit us in the future, hence i think that the funds needed to build this satellite is worth it. It is afterall, better to part with money then our lives, if it happens that an aestroid or a meteroid really comes our way.

The ISS do benefits us a lot . We can learn more about the outer space, galaxy. ISS can also let us be aware of any disasters from the outer space, like meteroid. Although it's abit costly, but it helps us. So it's definitely worth it !

This is also important to the since discovers.Once this project become successful, the world will change.

I feel that the ISS is a very benefiting project that will benefit the whole of humanity because it can help to predict incoming metoerites and natural disasters that might wipe out the whole of humanity.

Sure we hear a lot about the International Space Station, but what do we actually know about it besides being a giant money-laundering scheme developed by the Illuminati?

It is actually an internationally developed research facility that is being assembled in low Earth orbit.

therefore twelling us that the cost is very high but i feel that it is worth the money.=)

I feel that ISS would benefit to those people who would like to explore out of the earth and definately they can learn more things through this ISS if they were to travel out. It will also help the humans in the earth to be able to get know of the things in the outer space, thus if there is any unpredictable mishap going to happen, astronauts or people out on the outerspace will get to know and inform about the earth and people will get ready to prevent whats going to happen. It is a good thing afterall.

It is the largest space station ever built, the largest structure ever assembled in space, and one of the most complex international scientific projects in history. This benefits us student a lot as it make research more easily for us.
